About
The English Language Institute (ELI) at Mississippi State University (MSU) provides high-quality English language instruction and cultural immersion programs to help non-native speakers achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals. Key program components include:
Intensive English Program (IEP): Non-credit language courses across eight proficiency levels covering reading, writing, grammar, listening, speaking, and American culture to prepare students for college admission or personal development.
Academic & Credit ESL Courses: Targeted credit-bearing courses (e.g., American Language & Culture, Classroom Communication & Presentations, and Academic Research & Writing) for current MSU undergraduate and graduate students needing targeted language support.
Customized Short-Term Programs: 3-to-8-week tailored study programs for international partner universities, corporate groups, and visiting delegations combining language study with cultural excursions.
Community & Cultural Exchange: Hosts a free Conversation Partners Program that pairs ELI students with native English-speaking MSU students, faculty, or community members for weekly one-on-one language practice and cultural integration.
