About
The Legal Project is an in-house legal service initiative operated by the Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance (MIRA), a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for immigrant and working families across Mississippi. Directed by licensed legal counsel, the Legal Project helps non-citizens navigate affirmative U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) applications. Core services include:
USCIS Form Filings & Status Applications: Assists with applications for Permanent Residency (Green Cards), Work Permits (I-765), Naturalization/Citizenship (N-400), and DACA renewals (I-821D).
Family Reunification & Humanitarian Visas: Processes petitions for family relatives (I-130), fiancé(e) visas (I-129F), Temporary Protected Status (TPS), Special Immigrant Status, and unlawful presence waivers (I-601/I-601A).
Community Education & Safety Planning: Partners with MIRA organizers to present "Know Your Rights" workshops and build Family Safety Planning Toolkits (including power of attorney forms and child pick-up authorizations).
(Note: The Legal Project operates by appointment only and does not handle tourist visa applications, active criminal cases, or individuals currently in detention/immigration court removal proceedings.)

Fees apply — The MIRA Legal Project charges low-cost, nominal service fees to complete and submit immigration documentation. Applicants are still responsible for any mandatory government processing fees required by the Department of Homeland Security (USCIS) or National Visa Center, unless eligible for a official fee waiver.

Immigrants, non-citizens, mixed-status families, DACA recipients, and lawful permanent residents living in Mississippi who need guidance with affirmative immigration filings.
