About

The Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence (MCADV) is a 501(c)(3) statewide non-profit umbrella organization founded in 1980 by survivors and advocates. MCADV does not directly operate an emergency residential shelter itself; instead, it serves as the statewide network supporting Mississippi's 12 regional domestic violence shelter programs. Core functions include:
Shelter Support & Referral: Coordinates the network of regional shelters (including Safe Haven, Inc. serving the Golden Triangle), maintains a statewide hotline, and connects survivors to immediate emergency housing, local crisis lines, and safety planning.
Legal Advocacy & Assistance: Operates a specialized legal services unit that provides guidance, protective order assistance, and legal referrals for survivors navigating family court or safety concerns.
Professional Training & Technical Assistance: Equips law enforcement officers, healthcare providers, judicial officials, mental health practitioners, and advocate staff with specialized training on domestic abuse, stalking, and teen dating violence.
Public Policy & Legislative Advocacy: Champions legislation at the Mississippi State Capitol to strengthen survivor protections, secure state funding for shelters, and close gun violence loopholes related to domestic abuse.
