About

Disability Rights Mississippi (DRMS) is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) legal advocacy agency designated as Mississippi's official Protection and Advocacy (P&A) system for individuals with disabilities. Established under federal mandate, DRMS uses legal remedies, administrative advocacy, and public oversight to protect the civil and human rights of people with disabilities. Services include:
Legal Representation & Rights Protection: Provides free legal representation and formal advocacy to address disability discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), denial of reasonable workplace accommodations, and Medicaid waiver disputes.
Special Education & Youth Advocacy: Assists children and parents with special education rights, challenging inappropriate school discipline, and ensuring necessary accommodation plans (IEPs and 504 plans) are enforced.
Facility Monitoring & Abuse Investigation: Conducts independent investigations into allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of individuals living in institutions, nursing homes, psychiatric facilities, and juvenile detention centers.
Voting Rights & Community Access: Works to eliminate physical and technological barriers at polling places, protects the right to vote privately and independently, and challenges inaccessible public accommodations.
