About

The Central Mississippi Down Syndrome Society (CMDSS) is a parent-driven 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness, promoting acceptance, and providing direct support to individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Based in Ridgeland, Mississippi, their key service offerings include:
New Parent Support & Resources: Distributes a full-color New Parent Guide, hosts welcoming dinners, and provides one-on-one mentor connections and hospital/home visits for families who receive a new diagnosis.
Adult Vocational & Educational Programs: Operates Buddy Blend Coffee—a job-training program where adults with Down syndrome gain hands-on employment experience packaging coffee—and offers higher education and vocational scholarships up to $5,000.
Community & Social Events: Organizes family social gatherings, Moms' and Dads' Nights Out, educational seminars, and the annual Buddy Walk, which brings together over 1,000 community members to raise awareness.
Educator & Professional Grants: Provides competitive grants up to $500 every two years for special education teachers and direct service providers to purchase specialized classroom materials and curricula.
