About
The American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi (ACLU-MS) is a non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)(3) affiliate of the national ACLU dedicated to defending and expanding the constitutional rights and civil liberties of all Mississippians. Operating through legal action, legislative advocacy, and community education, their core work includes:
Impact Legal Representation: Selects high-impact civil liberties cases to challenge unconstitutional state actions, government overreach, free speech restrictions, voting rights violations, and systemic discrimination.
Legislative Advocacy: Monitors state legislation at the Capitol in Jackson, lobbying lawmakers to protect constitutional freedoms and opposing bills that restrict voting access, criminal justice reform, or personal privacy.
Specialized Campaigns & Projects: Runs targeted initiatives, including the LGBTQ Justice Project, voting access campaigns, educational discipline/special education reforms, and reproductive freedom outreach.
Public Education & Community Outreach: Provides free educational resources, "Know Your Rights" workshops, campus chapter support, and guest speakers to inform Mississippians about their legal rights.
